The Prices Went Down

...........and so I will be going over there this morning.
It's the nursery that is going out of business. Of course - figure if you wait long enough, they will just start dumping the stuff. Wait TOO long and there won't be anything good left.
Anyway, they changed their CL ad and it is showing plants for $1 and $2 a piece. They open at 7:00 am, I expect to be there at - 7:00am. Lol.

It dawned on me this morning why I am having trouble getting the feel for KCL as "home". I won't be commenting on the reason on this or any other blog so as not to start trouble - as I apparently did when I posted my first post over there. I'll keep it to myself, but definitely, I have identified the problem I have with it. Nothing terribly bad, but - enough to make me feel uncomfortable. I will continue to post over there, but - this is still my home here.

It's 6:00am and it's 89 degrees out. The high today? Supposed to get up to 109. That's not a typo, One Hundred and Nine Degrees. I imagine this afternoon I will be spending quality time - indoors. Tomorrow's high is expected to be 104, which is a little more tolerable.

Michael threw Duke out yesterday and left him out there by putting the doggy door block in place. I rebuked him sternly for such stupidity. It was 106 outside and it was humid (by our standards). It was HOT. Large dogs simply cannot handle the heat well. He was mad because Duke ate his sandwich off the counter. Find some other way to discipline him, throwing him out in this kind of heat and leaving him out there for hours is TOTALLY unacceptable. I got mad, to say the least, for his lack of concern for the dog's well being. Duke's head, while standing up, is above counter level, btw, making food on counters easy target. I do not allow the dogs in the kitchen when there is food being prepared. It's a simple matter of telling them to get out.

Anyway. I'm going to do some very slow watering on several plants today that simply don't get enough water, apparently, when I am filling up their basin and fill it up again. Namely, the Honeysuckles and the vines. Every day I come home and they are drooping. 15 minutes after watering them they are standing straight up again. Today is going to be too hot to have that happening, so - I'm going out there in a few minutes just before I leave for east Mesa to the nursery and start that process.

North Korea is continuing to spurt out rhetoric like Old Faithful in a spouting session. Now it's accusing Japan of spying with surveillance planes. Duhhhhhh. Is this some sort of secret? Of course there is satellite imagery - which is probably as good as is needed really, but - I have never had any doubts that there are drone planes flying over all kinds of regions across the world taking snapshots or even video of whatever they want it to look at. N Korea appears to be intent on starting a war with - whoever - for - what reason? It doesn't appear that even China is backing them up on this round of bs. I've also been eyeing the news for any reports on the Airbus and it's black boxes - I guess they haven't found them yet and I think the window of opportunity is almost up. However, investigators are now looking into reports of problems with other Airbus's that may be the same problem that the doomed Air France plane encountered with the plane's speed sensors failing, auto pilot and auto-thrust failing and basically - a lame duck flying through the air.

If any of that is true, well, I do believe there are a LOT of Airbuses flying around all over the place, the implications are far-reaching and quite serious. What if they determine to ground the planes until the problem is resolved? I haven't read that they are considering any such thing, just speculation on my part. The financial implications would be huge.

Anyway, I have to get out of here.
C'yall later!

In order. One - I really wish you would state your problems with KCL at least here. Nobody over there needs to come here to read what you write, and if they do, perhaps it is a situation they can address.

I was offput by the childish obsession with posting pix of tits and by the almost universal filthy language they seem to feel compelled to use. But I don't have to read past the first fuck, and I generally do not.

Second - my feelings about the family that squatted and abused you so long are no secret, but I am bound to tell you that if I were you, young Michael and all his friends would be forever banned from your place. Take your stuff and be gone and don't come back. What he did could have killed the animal and he is obviously lacking in either common sense or self control or both.

The North Korea thing is a red herring. The only danger is to our thousands of troops who are stationed in South Korea. They have been there for fifty five years. Why?

If you want to focus some worry about something, the most confiscatory tax bill in the history of the country was apparently passed without even being read by the dysfunctional retards who continue to get re elected to congress every few years. It is a disgrace that they are still in office.

The airbus black box is supposed to ping for thirty days. Temperatures may affect this. It is said to be in fifteen thousand feet of water with a very mountainous bottom, rendering many kinds of side scan sonar and such almost useless.

If the main body of wreckage is ever located, they may be able to retrieve the recorders long after they cease pinging. Yes, the 330/340 series is in widespread worldwide use, and the urgent need to recover those boxes is well understood by those searching.

My lack of a job (and extensive yard work) enables me to read daily on the progress of this investigation. Those who are interested should log onto pprune.org for probably the best and most comprehensive information about the event.

KCL - Obsessive usage of foul language.
Bickering that seems to be started over extremely petty things.
I am not a fan of the F bomb, either. There are plenty of other words that can get across your point without having to stoop to such levels of crassness. A person that is rattling off the f word like corn popping in a microwave comes across to me as a very junvenile person, at best. Like they never left the high-school demeanor behind. I have other reasons - but I am going to leave that alone.

Michael has little common sense. His mind gets wrapped around this phenomenon called video games. He's rather obsessed with them, to say the least. He didn't think about the potential consequences of what might have happened to that dog out there in heat like that. This is the first time anything like this has come up - I am pretty sure it will be the last time. Michael is the sole survivor of their family being over here. NONE of them come onto my property at this point. I haven't seen Anthony, well I don't think I've seen him since he broke the windows - that's been quite a long time (and I definitely do NOT miss him, either, compounded by the reports of his violent, drunken behavior and the daily use of pot). Michael is actually a pretty well-behaved kid - but is a product of his upbringing. I have made it clear that the kind of thinking his upbringing suggests is not tolerable in my house. There are 2 other kids that come over here that are Caleb's friends, actually. The oldest black kid (whose 3 younger brothers are permenantly banned from the property and have been for quite a long time now) and Kyle - I don't remember how Caleb and Kyle met, it was over 4 years ago. Oh, yes I do - Kyle used to live 4 houses down on my street with his grandparents. He's a good kid too. When Micheal wants to "play" with his friends, he leaves. I don't want all of that over here.

North Korea is solely an item of interest to me. I can see them doing nothing excepting, as you say, possibly putting our troops in harm's way. That being said, I think they have some kindd of clue what would happen to them if they dropped a bomb on South Korea. Unless you want the entire world's population to basically die, nuclear weapons are basically useless as a weapon of war, they are only a deterrent for other nations to not use their nukes, either.
I am SICK of taxes. I love what Schwarzennegger is doing in California: refusing to sign a budget that has any tax increases in it.
The federal government is out of control, that's the way I look at it. There IS no accountibility, just do whatever you want, whenever you want to do it, including raising taxes, spending money on useless or luxury types of things, engage in illicit sex acts outside of the marriage vows and a long list of other things.

I have no idea what it will take to EVER get the
Feds back under the control of the people - I do believe that as long as things continue to deteriorate in terms of what they are doing against the will of the people, eventually an outcry with substantial following will occur. Days, months, years, who knows, but it will happen if history repeats itself, and it usually does.

I have read that the information stored in those black boxes basically can survive indefinitely, so even if the pinging stops but they find the wreckage a year from now, as long as they aren't damaged beyond any use, the information can still be downloaded off and out of them.
I enjoy my extensive yard work : ) - cepting today, it's already half a billion degrees out there and I am not doing anything except basic watering duties.
Lack of job and being able to live without one isn't such a bad thing, me thinks, certainly in retirement. Further enhanced by the inclusion of finding a soul mate, I think you are in a very good position right now.
As for the website, I will definitely check it out.

BTW: I'm certainly no aviation expert - but I have read with great fascination volumes of material concerning jetliners, crashes, crews, passengers. I have watched video after video after video - it's just something of great interest to me, which makes me no more of an expert on the subject than watching a brain surgeon performing the surgery makes the view a surgeon, too. There is quite a lot of conjecture concerning the AF crash, but my hat's off to the NTSB, I think they do an outstanding job of sorting through all the FACTS and coming to conclusions based on facts, not hyperbole. I do not, however, take my hat off to the FAA, a part of whose responsibility it is is to take the NTSB's recommendations after an exhaustive investigation and put them in to some quantifiable use. From what I have read, they have failed on that count numerous times throughout the decades, and from further reading, people have lost their lives because of it. I think the NTSB's findings should have a lot more teeth to be able to make things happen instead of their findings just being more like "mere suggestions" that the FAA can either use or discard. The FAA seems to me to be under pressure from all points of contact to keep airplanes flying, not grounding them.
All well and good - until something happens that necessitates a particular brand and model of aircraft to be grounded until a repair is made - whether there's 10 or 1,000's of them in existence. The bottom line, as always, is money - airlines can't afford airplanes sitting on the ground.
I still believe, regardless, that flying is an extremely safe mode of transportation and the only reason I don't fly is the fact that I simply have not the financial wherewithal to be taking jets all over the world and visiting the countries I have always wanted to. Someday, I tell myself, someday.

I hope you get to do so while you are still healthy. I am quite fortunate in many respects. I lived quite near to JFK which was (and probably still is) served by many international flag carriers from Europe. In the early nineties while I was unattached and had time on my hands, virtually every European carrier offered 3 day two night special packages for under six hundred dollars tax included. SAS, Swissair, Alitalia, Austrian Air, British Air, TAP (Portugal) and Iceland Air all provided packages including air and hotel and sometimes some meals. Sometimes bus and subway passes were also included.

And continental had $299 ROUND TRIP fares to Honolulu. I went three times, taking my son once. In so doing I racked up enough frequent flyer miles to go to Indonesia free. They had a very inexpensive trip [$698[ to Aickland and it yielded double miles, which have me a free trip to Hong Kong.

I also grabbed a really cheap flight to South Africa, and one to Peking (oops Beijing) again for not much over six hundred bucks for China and the one for Africa included two five star hotels in the package which was not much over a thousand bucks for the week.

Air Malaysia had low fares to - well - Malaysia and LanChile had low fares to Chile, so I added those withut breaking the bank. I guess I did two or three a year.

My best bargain was found in a little newspaper ad -- round the world for $1295, It was some outfit in San Fran, and I flew to Taipai on an airline I'd never heard of, but it was one swell flight actually.

So as I said, the bargains were out there even before I ever set 'foot' on the internt. I suspect today it is possible to do just as well with places like Hotline, Orbitz Priceline and a gazillion others. As I said, I hope you can.

I agree with fin (astounding!) on all points.

Yes, I know there is a lot more "foul" language in KCL then elsewhere, but I don't let it bother me... it's all in fun. As long as things don't get personal, I let people do/say what they want to.... freedom of speech, you know? Don't let things like that worry you, you have bigger issues. And if Pastor Larry doesn't let it bother him, why should we?

Fin: You certainly are a World Traveller. I have never been overseas - I don't even have a passport - yet. I was thinking about getting one - the new tenant can get flights to anywhere free - he works at the airport (can't remember which airline). I dunno about that, but it's an intriguing idea. The cards just don't hold well for any kind of vacations right now - probably not until next year or whenever this economy comes back. If I don't ever get anywhere else, I definitely would like to make it to Italy. I would love to visit my now-passed grandmother's homeland of England and really, I would love to see Egypt as well (not sure how nice an atmosphere it is over there for American tourists). I have a huge list - an African safari - just don't get eaten by the lions - on and on. I'll never get rich in my line of work - I am decidely on a painfully slow but definitive route of getting a little wealthier through rental properties. It will eventually happen - just have to bridge the gap.

Westy: I'm over there, I'm blogging. Just aspects I don't like. I even paid for 6 months of pro access - which was quite cheap, really. Like less than 5 bucks. Freedom of speech is all well and fine - all for it - but certain types of speech I simply avoid and certainly don't feel left out because of it. I used to let the F word flow freely when I was a kid - I have no such compulsions at this point in life, I think grown adults probably should have a little more class. But that's just my opinion. There are times when I get upset at something and let out some sort of blurp - but I don't remember ever using the F word on any of my blogs. If I have, I would definitely regret that, as I just don't see it as fitting. Regardless, I am in the real world and exposed to all kinds of vulgarity at construction sites on a daily basis - grin and bear it.

It's true about KCL - I don't censor myself at all over there, but I don't consider it a place to write seriously. It's just fun...

Terrible about the dog! Hope he never does that again.

Kate: I guess we all have different reasons for blogging - I don't really see it as anything but a daily journal. I suppose it could be used as a social element for people to "get together" and share a few laughs.
Fin: I went to the site you posted and have been reading for a couple of hours now. The AF crash being dissected by at least a couple of people on one particular thread who appear to have very good knowledge about all of this kind of thing. I find myself googling what the acronyms mean for all kinds of things such as ISIS and ACARS. A learning experience on top of reading a thread of people's inferences on a listing of automatic messages that were sent out from the plane. Fascinating stuff!

That particular thread has quite a few real experts posting on it. One of them I have met personally, and he spent over thirty years as an accident investigator. As you have seen, several are current A330 captains. Some are software engineers, and one person is a very highly skilled meteorologist and put up a marvelous link of the weather that night...a very highly detailed and skilled presentation.

I do not pretend to know all the acronyms, but I have been reading it daily since the crash. The moderators have deleted more posts from that thread than currently remain.

The posts on sea drift were also detailed and scientific. I am really glad you clicked through and had time to delve into it!

BenB said...

Well, the thread also makes a mention of Al Haynes on flight 232 - so I went to YouTube and am watching and ACI series on the crash. I did read that posts that weren't relevant to the thread would be deleted, it also appears that there is animosity towards what I would call "know-nothings" that apparently were chiming in on things they - know nothing about. Understandably, the level of expertise, knowledge and experience of many of those posting are far above anything a person like me would be able to cause to make a competent conversation with concerning the matters being discussed. However, I'm naturally inclined to learn about things I don't know anything about, so - just another venue into a subject that has ever-fascinated me: airplanes, and more specifically, commercial jetliners.
BTW, I have plenty of time today - I had no desire to go out into that heat as I have been for a while now. Rather enjoyed taking a day off - though I am going outside here and there to move the house around as stated in whichever posting today I am doing deep watering of the plants that need it.

Fin said...

I met Al Haynes personally too. Had my photo taken with him! He speaks now as a sort of motivational speaker. His experience was certainy extraordinary.

BenB said...

Haynes was part of the series of the ACI series that involved the crash he was captain of the jetliner that went down. The series does a mockup of the flight and it's crash and then does interviews with all kinds of people that were involved in the aftermath, always including NTSB investigators but also any flight crew that might have survived that will agree to show themselves (note that there is one particular jetliner that came down where the entire crew refuses to comment either in-person or in writing about the incident). The entire cockpit crew of that jetliner of the same quality of the crew of the now-infamous "Hudson River Landing". Good people. I like to hope that every crew is like that - but - I remember seeing a drunk pilot once on a flight I was taking. Way back when.

My plans to get home at a reasonable hour tomorrow have been dashed.  We were going back and forth in texting about the schedule and then I...
