A bit of a dilemma.
I have 1 large plant out front that has completely up and died.
There is one that is even larger that is dying off.
I have no idea, whatsoever, why the one plant has died and the other is dying.  It isn't for lack of water, I can guarantee you that.

What's the dilemma?  Summer.  Heat.  Humidity.  Oh, no, it's not a dry heat.  There has been enough humidity mixed with high enough temps to make it feel very uncomfortable out there.  I am soooo sick of the summer that I just want to be outside as little as possible until cooler temps come.

At the same time, that big, brown, dead and now-ugly plant needs to go. It actually isn't that big of a deal that it died, I have fresh ideas about what to do with that area once I get that dead thing out of there anyway.    I mean, I didn't WANT it to die, but it's okay, I'm cool with it, find something else to do with that area and maybe take a completely different route with it.  The other plant next to it I am not real happy about it's slow, gradual death, due to what I have no clue.  But it's turning brown with the exception of  a few branches that are, inexplicably, very healthy looking.  I'm waiting that one out.  I want to see if it's going to completely die out or if there are some parts of the plant that are salvageable.  It is about 8 feet tall and maybe that much in circumference.  It was a really nice plant that I had acquired from one of the nursery auctions that started out as a twig in the ground.

I'm sure I will get out there and get the dead one cut down.  I'm waiting for one of the tenants to come home, he has an electric chain saw in his car that he said he would let me use.  Make that job MUCH easier.

I also have yet to put any fish in that front pond after all of them died off in there.  Another inexplicable event.    I had been suspicious about neighbor involvement in poisoning the ponds and I still haven't ruled that out, to be honest.  I may never know.  But, if one of the "war" neighbors did do something to my ponds, eventually that truth will be spread around the neighborhood and get back to me.  That might be a long time.  Meanwhile, I am leaving that pond void of fish for a while.  I still have nice plants in it and I am still running the small filtering system for it - can't let it stagnate and turn into a cesspool of mosquitoes.  I could just use it as a plant water feature and leave the fish out of it.

My other 2 ponds have apparently recovered from whatever happened to them.  I did lose fish in them, but not near as many as the amount of fish lost in the front pond.  I have been forcing myself to clean out the filters much more frequently than what I had been doing.

As for today, it's Labor Day and why bother doing anything, anyway.  When the temps come down, I will be doing some major work outside, especially on the east side of the house.  Cooler temps will help with the amount of trimming and de-grassing under the vines that needs to be done.

_____________________
Just took a trip to one of the largest tree farms in the entire county, which just happens to be 2-1/2 miles away from my house.  I found some interesting ideas and definitely found some plants that would replace the dead one and actually look much better.  One of which puts out beautiful, yellow flowers and grows up to 12 feet tall.

However, after coming home, I found the answer.  Something that will work much better than what I have out there now: Indian Laurel Columns.

I'm actually ready at this point to go out there and cut that dead thing down - however - the tenant is not here yet and I'm going to wait for the ease of us of an electric chainsaw versus having to it down and into small piece by hand.

Well whatever.  Work back in the queue again.  It doesn't matter how long time off can be - a day, 3 days, a week - it just disappears soooo fast.  Lol.

So, Sunday almost gone.
I bought 2 racks of pork ribs at the grocery store - on sale greatly reduced price - and slow cooked them for 3 hours on the grill this afternoon.
Yummy.

Church this morning?  You bet.  I was a little surprised to hear the pastor using a conversation that I had had with him earlier this week incorporated into his sermon.   Not opposed to it and he didn't point me out, just used the "speaking with a brother on the phone" statement.  But the conversation  he was mentioning was unmistakable.

Well anyway.  Just riding out a nice, 3 day weekend and looking forward to some new things in my life.

Talk about that another time.  Bedtime for me.

Saturday, September 1, 2012

My original plan some weeks ago for the Labor Day weekend - which is now - was to go up to the property and hang out for a couple of days.
Well, I am not going up there again until mother and I have a conversation about my dogs and whether she is going to be able to handle it, cause' if she isn't, I will go up there without them sometime this month, pump  the water lines full of RV version of anti-freeze and it will sit until Spring, which is when I will have it hauled out of there.  I will sell it, wash my hands of the entire situation and move on with life.

Instead, I went to a men's meeting at church this morning and heard some interesting ideas about starting up a men's group and doing various types of outings and such.  Breakfast was also served, very nice egg casserole, the likes of which I had never had before, was severed along with other basic breakfast foods.
Good meeting, was glad I made it.

No great plans for this 3 day weekend.  Not that I need any.

Time's up.  Bedtime, lol.

Spent almost the entire day out in the heat and humidity.  108 today.  You know it's humid when even if you aren't doing anything, you start sweating profusely.  However, I wasn't not doing anything.  I was drinking water and tea all day long, but I finally succumbed to a heat-induced headache that will probably stick with me until bedtime, which will undoubtedly be earlier than normal today.

On the way home, I stopped at Fry's Food Stores.  Meandering through the store looking for the things I needed, I happened by the deli.  A girl working behind the counter, I walked over to the where the fried chicken was and was about to ask for an 8-piece of it until I saw the price.  It jumped from $4.99 to $6.99. I simply said, oh, the price has gone up.  The girl "informed" me that it has been that price for the last 2 years now.  No, I replied, it has not, I have bought a lot of that chicken at $4.99.  Oh, yeah, they had that on sale for like 2 weeks.  No, I relied again, it was at that price for about 8 months.  No, she stated, it has always been $6.99.

I was getting irritated.  Number one because I knew I was right - I have bought a lot of that fried chicken at the lower price and 2, that this girl of whom I had never seen before and therefore concluded she hasn't been working there all  that long was giving me  impudent, obnoxious and argumentative tones.  The fact that I had a heat headache and exhausted from busting my @$$ in the heat all day long didn't help matters.  I just decided to end that conversation and walk away from her, chicken be damned I can get some some other day.  The next thing I know, this girl is talking trash about me to another customer who had just walked up.

I was going to just let it go, little girl with attitude, the world is full of them.  But when she made the snide remarks to the customer, who also turned to give me a look, that was it.  I went up to the front, paid for my groceries and then asked for Christine, the current store's general manager.  Unavailable.  Fine, I'll call when I get home.

Turns out, after getting home and calling, this isn't the first complaint against that girl and her stupid attitude.  You can't work in a customer service venue and expect that, with a bad attitude, you are going to get away with it forever, or very long for that matter.  I was asked what she could do for me to keep me as a customer.  "Deal with her, that's all I want".

I'm out of it.  I was informed a few minutes ago that it rained for an hour last night - completely missed it - which gives me a pass on having to water plants. I don't feel like doing anything at all right now.  It's way too early to go to bed at 4:30, if it was even 7:00  I would be hitting the sack.

Yeah, ending this one.

So, I watched this "guest" in my house washing their hands the first time. First pouring on the Dawn dishwashing liquid - which is a big no-no in my house since I have anti-bacterial pump hand soap available even at the kitchen sink and since Dawn dish washing liquid isn't exactly cheap - and wash their hands for about 3 minutes.

About 20 minutes later, this individual comes back to the kitchen sink and does the same thing all over again.  And again.  And again. And again.  I could hardly contain myself, I wanted to question this person as to what, exactly, it was the caused them to want to wash their hands 10 times in a 5 hour period of time?  One of my tenants who also observed this behavior simply labelled it as a compulsive disorder and that was that.

To live with someone acting in that manner all the time would drive  me crazy.

Whatever, just the odd things you see in life that I just have to comment about.

Meanwhile, I am cleaning out the larger fish pond filters every couple of days now.  They get full of fish waste pretty quickly.  It may be that I was allowing too much time to elapse between cleanings and they were wallowing, literally, in their own waste.  Without researching it online one would conclude that can't be good for any living thing.  But, after doing the research anyway - had to look - it's even worse than I thought.

Let's just say here that cleaning out those filters isn't exactly the first thing I want to do when I get home from work.  Yet today, I spent an hour cleaning out both of them thoroughly.  IF that is the reason they were kicking the bucket, that potential problem is going to be eliminated.

I am considering going up the hill this coming weekend.  I really need to have a discussion with my mom about this dog situation.  It really hinges on her.  I am firm with my dogs, yes.  Great Danes are obstinate and stubborn.  They push the limits.  Not just once or twice, they just like to push the limits.  Prince especially.  She doesn't get what having 3 dogs is like, she has one that is a complete handful but it's only one dog.

I like my dogs, if I didn't they would be goners.  I have always loved my dogs.  But, they aren't going to just run me over and do whatever they want.  There are doggy rules and these dogs are WELL aware of those rules.

The political scene is beginning to humor me.  The idea that Romney is now leading - barely - in the polls with all the negative ads coming from the Obama camp is entertaining at the least.

An appropriate ending not possible, time for bed.

G'nite.

I am sitting here in this absolutely magnificent hotel room - don't get this kind of treat very often -
with the AC turned down to 65 and enjoying the beautiful views out the french glass style doors up
to the north towards the mountains. It is perfectly quiet in here save the sound of the AC system.

I have absolutely no intention of leaving before the final minute of check-out time, which is 3 hours and 45 minutes from now.  I won't be staying at a place this luxurious again for some time to come, I am guessing, might as well take advantage of it.

Not only that, but this room is an upgrade, the likes of which I did not ask for neither did I expect.
I showed up after the company party and simply started the check in process, which is when the
man apparently was reading the notes and determined that if available, a room upgrade should be in
order.  Well, I'm not one to turn down that kind of offer.

The aspect of this room that is really awesome is the absolute quiet.  There are no dogs barking; no humans asking me endless questions; just peace and quiet.  Even better that i have 4G access on my internet.  No need to pay the $11 or whatever it was internet fee, lol, got that on my Hotspot.

The party was awesome fun as well.  They rented out the entire bowling alley at the Dave & Buster's that we were at - 12 lanes worth and all of them were being used.  We bowled pretty much the entire time we were there.  The only drawback was the limited selection of bowling balls and I could not find one with holes big enough for my fingers.  Anyway, there was a raffle and I won a $25 gift certificate to Home Depot, which I thought odd because in many respects, they are
our competitor.  Not that I'm complaining, I go to Home Depot all the time, lol.  The general manager was handing out the prizes and he was mocking my voice my entire walk up to the table for the prize.  I kind of have a deep, gruffy voice which gets even deeper and raspier if I am tired.

One of the drivers from the main branch that was bowling with us got so drunk, he couldn't get the ball down the lane, it was a gutter ball every single time, lol.  His wife was just sitting there, shaking her head and not drinking at all.

I am skipping church this morning just so I can sit here and enjoy the serenity of this place.  The weather outside isn't even that bad, must be in the low 80's.  Yup, 84 with a high today of 103.  We are approaching the end of August, thank God Almighty, meaning the temps should start coming down in September and the electric use along with it.  Not that September is cool by any stretch of the imagination, just that the temps are not near as high as the worst 3 months of the year which include June, July and August.  We have to get into October before we can actually say it's getting cool outside, lol.

There is this large-screen TV sitting in front of me that I have yet to turn on. I just don't care that much for TV as much as I used to.  I get my news off the net from a variety of sources - try to get all the different takes on the same story and then meet them all up somewhere in the middle.

Anyway, I'm outta here.  Happy Sunday.

The laughing Marriott customer representative.
Specifically, the J W Marriott Desert Ridge Resort And Spa located on Tatum road in North Phoenix.
It is within walking distance of the Dave and Buster's where our company's end-of-fiscal-year party is going to be held.
I stayed there I think 2 years ago at a discounted rate and now for the life of me cannot remember how I got that rate, but I was asking for it again anyway.
So, I inquired of the lady who - laughed at me.
She thought it was some sort of joke that I should be asking for a lower rate than the lowest advertised rate of $160.
Yeah, that didn't go over too well with me.  "What are you laughing at?".  "Excuuuuse me?  I didn't laugh at you".  "YES, you did".  She began to get argumentative with me which is when I asked for her manager.

I said nothing to this woman to warrant the kind of behavior I received on the phone from her.  NOTHING. I was totally respectful and was ready to move on and try to find something else if they simply had said no, we don't have anything cheaper, we're sorry. I'm of the mindset that it "never hurts to try" and the worst they can tell you is no.

I'm guessing that woman is regretting that response to me last night as I not only informed her manager, I also wrote in a complaint, but figuring it would be forever before I got a reply, I decided to call corporate headquarters as well.  And no, I wasn't aggressive panhandling.  I simply did not, up until that encounter anyway, associate J W Marriott hotels with that kind of condescending, haughty and spiteful type of behavior coming from anyone working there.  Normally, at least for me, one connotes the Marriott name with complete and total professionalism.  I have no idea whether calls are recorded but I was informed that the person I was dealing with whose name is Sharon will be having her calls monitored.

Indeed.

Whatever the case, the party is tomorrow afternoon and I intend on enjoying myself.

Onto other things.  If you came here on a Google search, well, that's the end of the Marriott tale and the rest is just my day to day life.  Such as my fish ponds.  Today marks the first day that I did not find any dead fish in any of the 3 ponds.  I am not declaring the problem over, but it is a good sign that I didn't find any very large fishies floating around on the top of the ponds today.  Fortunately I have not lost any of the large Koi, it's mostly been goldfish and some smaller Koi.

I have been aggressively dealing with the problem in emptying out large amounts of the pond water and replacing with fresh tap water. Taking the filters apart, cleaning them out frequently and then putting them back together again.  Yesterday adding pond - stuff - whatever it is - that helps with fish stress.  I can only do so much.  It is still a bit puzzling that all 3 ponds had the same problem all at once.  That indicates something external was introduced, not a naturally occurring event inside the ponds.  Again, the rains and the potential of all that chemical that has been sprayed all over the property is the number 1 "suspect".  Number 2, though unlikely but certainly not inconceivable, is that some sort of poison was added to all 3 ponds.  I find it inconceivable because they would have had to jump my fence and take another risk of me catching them in the act.

The thought of catching someone dumping poison into ponds that are  behind fences in my back yard is - a bit troublesome indeed.  But I'm going to put that idea on idle and hope that it was just the poison from the exterminator, who last time was out sprayed a lot of that stuff onto the rocks and plants - no problem there, but I am guessing she must have gotten too close to the ponds.  From this point forth, the exterminator will not be coming over here unless I am at home so I can monitor where that person is spraying the poison.

I am going to church tonight, though I definitely do not feel like it, it's the weekly prayer thing.  I am very tired and I am not feeling particularly well for some reason.  But I am not going to allow that to stop me to go as pastoral staff is encouraging everyone to get into those Friday night meetings and join in the prayer celebration.  I'll go for at least an hour.  There is no one telling anyone that they have to stay for X amount of time. I figure an hour good, come home and go to bed.

So that's it.  Church starts in less than an hour.  Time to get ready both mentally and of course my attire, lol.

G'day.

Finally, after 4 days, the people that sold me the refrigerator wrote back.  Blah Blah Blah.  Their word in their garage obviously didn't carry over to reality. I have spent $450 on a refrigerator that at best is worth $200, that of which I paid for it.  I found the address for small claims court and will be stopping by there tomorrow after work.  I'm getting very tired, in life, of people that say one thing and then do something completely different.

My mother called me 2 nights ago after we had had the fallout about the dogs/Prince.  I wasn't near the phone and didn't know it had rung, much less a message left on it.  I listened to the message and listened to my mother asking me if she wants me to pick up some RV antifreeze, acting as if the confrontation on the phone on Sunday had never happened.  She hoped for a reply by 8:00 the next morning, or Tuesday.  I called her at around 7:30 am and wondered how this conversation was going to go.  Awkward, at best, yet her thing about the dogs never came up.

I didn't say anything about it, it was a short conversation and that was that.\

Went to church small group last night.  Nice little service, but by the time 7:30 hits, I'm starting to yawn, getting tired and dreaming of bed.

I have not yet replied to my ex-pastor's who sent me the letter last week.  I did write a reply to them but have yet to send it.  Sort of sitting on it and pondering.

Going to another survey thing today.  30 minutes for 30 dollars.  It's 5 miles away, if it were far away I wouldn't have agreed to it.  But what the heck, 30 bucks is 30 bucks.

Umm, there's more but I have to leave soon for the taste testing thing.  It's been raining here, a good thing except - my fish are dying off. I think I finally figured out what's going on. The exterminator came and last time flooded the property. I am guessing the rain is washing that poison right into the pond.  It's one of a few possible answers. That or the neighbor wars are coming into my back yard and pouring poison into the ponds, but if that were true, one would think they would all die all at once.  I'm leaning towards the idea of the exterminator, especially consider the amount of poison that was dumped in there last time.

Anyway, outta here.

The situation:

I was up at mom's property, I dunno, was it 3 weeks ago?  I was leaving, getting the dogs in the car to take them home.
There is only one way those giant dogs fit into the back seat of that car to make it comfortable for both of them.  It takes quite a bit of "arranging" to do and it also takes the cooperating of the dogs to get it done.

So, I had put Prince in first and had him perfectly situated, telling him to stay, stay, stay while I went and got Duke.  When I came back, Prince got up, turned around headed out of the car.  Now I have Duke in hand and Prince needing to be put back into correct position.

Prince is a big baby.  He whines and sometimes "cries" when things aren't going his way.  I just let go of Duke, got back into the car and had to move the dog physically because he refused to move back into position.  It does NOT mean I was hurting him, but he starting his whining/crying junk again.  Loudly.  A big dog, a big mouth.  Mother was walking by the car as this was happening.

I knew she had taken issue with it when I got the dogs in and left - she just kept walking with her back towards me.  I hadn't called her in almost 3 weeks because I knew that the next time I talked to her, she was going to say something and more to the point: it was going to be a caustic interaction even if I tried to avert it.

Which I did try.  I really did.  I called her today and got the conversation rolling, we talked a few minutes and then? She went there.  Blah blah blah.  You were hurting Prince, I didn't feel comfortable with it.  I did cut her off once and nicely tried to get her to take this conversation elsewhere, because I can tell you right now that I take extreme offense to anyone even remotely insinuating that I am some sort of animal abuser.  I have had dogs all of my life and have always taken very good care of them.  When Coco was dying a while back I poured my heart and energy out to doing whatever I could to save her, including draining my bank account and running up credit card debt which I am still paying off.

The conversation did not end well.   I decided that if she doesn't like the way I treat my dogs, then my presence up there on her property and bringing my dogs up there is not going to work out. I informed her I would not be coming up there anymore and that when I could, I would have the trailer moved off the property.  I was very offended at the way she was talking to me.  She didn't give me the opportunity to explain what was actually happening in the car, instead she just concluded that I was intentionally hurting the dog.

So that's it.  It will undoubtedly be quite a while before we talk again.  We have had issues before about different things in the past and this is pretty much modus-operandi.

It hasn't really been such a great ending to my vacation. Besides that, I have spent 3 hours today sweating my @$$ off attempting to get the pond situation rectified.  More fish have died.  I had to remove the fish and then I had to find that small pump I have and try to get it to work on the big waterfall filter.  I figured that any kind of filtering at all is bettering than nothing.  It's a 125 gallon per hour pump, so every 3 plus hours that pumps the entire contents equivalent through that filter.  I emptied out about a third of the water in it and replaced it with fresh water and rearranged the aerators so that they would hit a larger area of the water.  I had to clean out the other larger pond filtering system as well.  Plus I had the refrigerator I bought off of Craigslist which died on me and spent another $200 getting it fixed.  It IS working well now at this point, I finally get the temp to stay at a constant 37 degrees, pretty much in the target range.

But it has all worn me out.  Instead of going back to work refreshed, I guess it will be pretty much the same as when I left for vacation.  I think, actually, I am ready for the "distraction" of work at this point.  I may not be ready to get up at 4:30 am, guess I'll find that out when 4:30 rolls around and the alarm clock goes off.

The situation with mother is troubling.  Had I had any thought that there would be this kind of problem, I would not have bought that trailer and spent the months I did in fixing it up.  I now have yet one more situation on my hands that has to be dealt with.  But I don't have the money to spend on moving it down here right now and if she wants it off the property badly enough, she will have to pay for it's removal to wherever herself, the nearest towing yard I guess, which would be in Star Valley.  It would be a lost cause for me, as paying for the tow there, plus storage, plus moving it to wherever else temporarily would be out of the question right now.  Would she do that?  Uhhh, yes, if it irked her enough, she would.

Friday, August 17, 2012

I don't hardly make any claims to be the most spiritual person in the world, in fact, at this point, I freely admit that I am FAR from any title that would make that claim.  So, when I looked at that logo on a piece of mail I received today, a familiar logo and one that is associated with extremely negative thoughts, I can also attest that spirituality was from the list of adjectives that were running through my head.

The letter-head was from the church I used to go to.  When I say that, I mean the church that shunned me when I was getting divorced.  I didn't even want to open the letter at first, I wondered what kind of miserable, negative, accusatory statements I would read within the confines of the letter.  What possible purpose would they have in contacting me NOW, after all of this time?

I didn't know but eventually, curiosity killed the cat.  I opened the letter.  It wasn't a form letter - I would have immediately trashed it if it was.  You know, a pre-scripted letter sent to who knows how many people?

I can't and won't write the entire depth of the letter on here.  It basically stated they missed me, that they realized there was a huge, gaping hole in their lives - we were best friends for over a decade and we did a LOT together - and basically asking me to let them back into my life.  My thoughts went straight to the shunning in front of everyone at church, a thing I realized today I thought I had gotten over: I have not.  My reaction was proof of that: I began firing off a letter of how they treated me and how they had dissed me, shunned me and actually turned their BACKS on me at CHURCH, at a SERVICE!!

I got 4 paragraphs into that letter and realized what I was doing - and stopped.  If I were to seek the Lord about this for even 2 minutes, I would realize that this is not the course of action He would have me take.  Christians are instructed to forgive.  I know, it isn't easy sometimes. In fact, in circumstances such as what I went through with these people while going through a divorce, their actions only made it 100 times more hellish.  I found myself without ANY support from anyone save my mother.  Bless her heart : )  Oh, my dad was there for me too, now that I think about it : )

So, I put the letter down and sought some spiritual backing from my pastor.  Not that I can't figure this out myself, that's not the point.  I want to know that there is a support system available for me.  I am not trying to get them to hate those people, rather, to pray about it and give me a detached, third-party input. I really need that because I really would like to get past this.  He wrote back quickly and gave me his thoughts and then advised me to give it a few days and pray over it before responding and that he, too, would be praying about it and he would get back to me.

So that's where this is being left for now.  I am not going to reply to them until, at the earliest, next week.  I'm  going to pray about it, seek the Word about it, sit on it and dwell on it.  Give it enough time to give me any kind of thought that perhaps - some kind of reconciliation is actually possible here.  I dunno, yet.  Maybe I will get some direction at church on Sunday.

ben
“We have customs, we have cultures. We want to share this with this country, and those who criticize us and who hate us, we invite you to get to know us.”

That from an illegal "immigrant" who, along with 40 or so others, is "touring" the country and openly stating that they are here illegally.  These people - and millions like them - feel that they are somehow being wronged.  They run around saying how bad America is - I have been hearing this for decades now - yet, they continue to stay here.

The statement  about their customs and cultures?  My extensive knowledge of many of them are that they do not even attempt to blend in with our society at all.  Instead, they want to change it to their way of thinking and living to the point that many of them refuse to even attempt to learn how to speak English.  They demand spanish speaking customer service reps and want all signage and literature to be printed in Spanish.

I'm not sorry to say that this is NOT the United States of Mexico.  I have no sympathy for people that are here illegally, none whatsoever AND I completely agree with Governor Brewer's executive order to deny them access to social programs that should be there for legal citizens/residents.  Many of these people make a calculated decision to have babies here so they can therefore make the excuse that they have kids that are legal citizens. This doesn't excuse the fact that they came here and ARE here illegally!

Whatever the case, it's Friday and 9 days off of work is slowly coming to a close.  It always passes by far too quickly.  I had thoughts of going up to the mountains but I am not sure I am going to do that.  If I am, I'm going to have to leave within the next 4 or 5 hours, so, guess I better make up my mind.  I'm opting for not, though.  The 900 miles of driving earlier this week sort of took the desire to drive anywhere right out of me, lol.

Plus I definitely want to make church on Sunday and basically try to get a bit of rest and relaxation going so I don't feel stressed going back to work on Monday.

I will answer the comments in my last post here.
Got to the place at 3:30 am.  Paid up everything for the trip and then went outside to wait
for them to signal the okay to board the boat.  Maybe 15 minutes later, they fired the boat up and then?  It stalled maybe 15 seconds later. I joked with some others that the boat was broken
and now there wasn't going to be a trip.

Umm, unfortunately, the joke became reality.  Ruptured fuel line.  We got the news
and started to contemplate what to do.  There were 12 of us out there for this boat.  A group of
4 made a phone call to some other fishing place that must have been near there and they took
off after confirmation that there was still just enough spots left for them to come.

Then another group of 4 made phone calls to wherever, where they apparently scored and they
left post-haste.  Well, Caleb and I are left with 2 others. 1 had decided to go home, the other hadn't
made up his mind, I was in "aggressive panhandler" mode. I just drove 455 miles to get on that
boat, they knew I was from out of state, they had called me the night before to confirm I was
still coming and yes, I informed them, I'm en-route, about 100 miles out.

Well, they had another boat going out 2 hours later.  The problem with that boat - that I had heard
from people - is that it only goes out by some islands which are over-fished and may not bring in a
good haul.  Yeah, but we were up, awake and I just decided to get on that boat and whatever
happens, happens.  It was a full boat, unfortunately, meaning there were too many people and
lines were getting crossed all day long.  The worst part is that there weren't many fish caught.

I only snagged 2, Caleb gave up after an hour of it.  I subsequently learned that Caleb doesn't care
one way or the other about the fishing part of it, he just likes being on the boat and out on the
ocean. Well that didn't bother me and I made the best of the day regardless of lack of fish.

I can only say that if we go again?  Back to San Diego, not Ventura.  The San Diego trip a bit more
pricey, but if I can catch a lot of fish, I don't care.

I was actually going to go for a second day of it, but, I decided to go home instead.

Caleb probably would have liked a second day, I was just too worn out from the previous day's
endeavors on that boat to do much of anything but drive home. 10 hours of fishing sort of creeps
up on you, lol.

It was good.  I was glad to get out of town.  It was MUCH cooler over there.

Nothing out of the ordinary happened here at the house while we were away.  The only oddity was Duke.  He just could not stay away from me. I told him to go lay down, he did and just got bacvk up and got right back in my face. He has some pretty extreme separation anxiety issues.

I'm thinking of heading up the hill tomorrow and getting some mountain time in.  Maybe stay up
there until Saturday.  I'm not sure yet.  The weather around these parts is conducive to either
staying inside your house in the AC  or getting out of town.  I have to admit that I much  greater
like going up to the mountains in the tall pines with cool, fresh air than going to the ocean.

Not saying I don't like the ocean, just that most of my life in outdoors it's been in the mountains
camping yet at the same time, our family spent plenty of time at the beaches as well.  It would help
if I had a "significant other" to go to a beach with : )

So, a great time really.

Monday, August 13, 2012

Well we're here.  I made the first 250 miles in about 3 hours, but when we hit the outskirts of LA we ran into rush hour traffic. 2 of us in the car, we were able to get on the HOV lanes and fly past most of it.  Until we got to whatever freeway that we had to merge on to - this place is loaded with freeways and suddenly? The traffic came to almost a standstill. That went on for over an hour before finally getting onto the 101 and it loosened up quite a bit.

Uhhh, the Motel 6.  Well, it's nothing like that horror-house Motel 6 in San Diego from last year.  It's just a regular old Motel 6 and so far I don't hear any noise that will keep me up.  Which is a good thing, cause' it's 8:30 and I am going to bed in a few minutes.  Brought my fan and my ear plugs, though, I can't really sleep without them.

Caleb was amazed that you can drive through the middle of the desert, out in the middle of nowhere, and still have access to the internet via the Verizon hotspot. It's all 3g out there, but it still works.  I have had this patch on for motion sickness behind my ear all day long - the instructions say to put it on 24 hours in advance. I felt kinda funny for a while but that passed and it's all good now.  Though, the doc did say it might cause' some fatigue and I am experiencing that - but I don't know if it's the patch or still left overs from that sleep aid medicine I took last night.  That stuff really kicked my @$$.

That's it.  We got here in time to get about 6 hours of sleep after all is said and don. Not sure about being able to sleep on the boat, but it does have bunks and there won't be any fishing until they get out to wherever they are taking us to drop the lines in the water.  The point is I will try to get a little more shut eye if possible when the boat takes off. I am definitely NOT forgetting to take my warm clothes this time, either.  I FROZE last year most of the day out on the water.  I was kicking myself all day long for forgetting to bring the sweatshirts with me.  Oh, I brought them on the trip, I just forgot to pack them in the bag to take on the boat.

Anyway, precious time's a wasting, gotta to to sleep!

ben
Monday morning.
Took one of the "new" sleep pills last night at around 8:00pm.
It hit me in less than 15 minutes.
I was still trying to get stuff done before going to bed - not a happening event.  I was stumbling around like a drunk man and finally decided to just crash.
Here we are, 11 hours and 20 minutes later and I'm still dazed from it.

Although it works, I couldn't possibly use this stuff during the work week.

It's now almost 16 hours since I took that stuff and I am still feeling a bit groggy.  But not too bad, thankfully, as I am leaving in around half an hour.  Just had to go to Bass Pro shops and find a lure to try out on the ocean.  The fishing company gives live bait which usually works well enough, but I still want to try a lure anyway.

Well that's enough for this entry, I still have some things to do before I leave.

Later.

Saturday, August 11, 2012

Today is my first official day of vacation.  It is going to be hot outside today, at least 111 but probably even hotter.  So, what else is there to do but stay inside and do nothing?  I did all my running around early so I wouldn't have to be out in the heat.  Bank, food store and then I decided to stop at PetSmart to see if they still had little fishies on sale.

They weren't on sale, but it turns out the little goldfish are only thirteen cents a piece.  Apparently people buy them in bulk to feed other animals/reptiles/whatever.  So I got a bunch of them.  I figure to start a fresh crop of goldfish so I can eventually get rid of the giant ones I have in there.  They are REALLY big for a pond that small! lol  They grow so fast, the Koi are growing at exponential rates as well.  Which is actually unfortunate because from what I have been reading, they will not stop growing simply because they are in small ponds, meaning eventually I am going to have to depart with the big ones or go ahead and actually build the big pond that I have dreamed of having.  Like at least 1,200 gallons if not larger.

My "new" refrigerator is in place and is a nice, freezing temperature on the freezer side and nicely chilled on the other.  It is not, however, for my use.  I am moving into the smaller refrigerator and the tenants can have the new, big one.

I just cancelled my CreditKeeper account.  It gives me access to my credit report and also shows me my credit score. I haven't been able to access it in over 2 months.  I finally decided to just call them and get rid of it.  I will do a one-time score thing with another vendor here and there to see what's going on with it.  Well, I didn't use my aggressive panhandler tactics, I just asked for them to end it.  The lady on the other end of the phone said sure.  She didn't even try to convince me to continue on with it.  She then stated:  "I have issued you 4 credits for the inconvenience of not having been able to access your account and we truly apologize for the problems".  Reeeeally?  I didn't even ask for credits to my account and wasn't GOING to! That was a total surprise!  Nice to not have to get into all kinds of BS with a vendor for once.

Okay, so Romney has announced Ryan as his running-mate.  He also made a statement to the effect that he is not going to engage in the same kinds of smear campaign - which I might add is the worst I have ever seen - coming from the Obama campaign.  Charging that Romney is a felon, a dog hater, a woman hater and then the latest that he hasn't paid taxes in 10 years.  All I can say is that concerning the internet, anyone that calls me an Obama hater or a black hater is going to find that conversation ended and over with in an instant and if it's on a format such as Facebook, unfriended immediately.  When the left can't come up with any factual response, they always resort to name-calling or simply making up stories that are not validated by fact.

OH, and I forgot about the ad that states that Romney "killed" that man's wife in that attack ad.  What a crock of S***.  That's about as low as it goes.  It's obvious, at least to me, that the Obama administration is fearful of losing - considering the bleak state of the economy no wonder.  Romney needs to start hammering on the economy and the dismal failure of Obama - without all the name -calling and made-up lies.  He doesn't NEED lies, the facts are plain and obvious and need to be hammered into the minds of those that are still undecided. Even some liberals establishments are wondering if the unbelievable, harsh and vile attacks might end up backfiring against Obama.

I am still waiting for the debates.  That's what's going to make or break either of them, IMO, at least with the undecideds.

Well whatever.  I just called the sportfishing place.  I asked them about the Tuesday departure.  It only shows 3 tickets sold so far.  The man's reply?  "It's only Saturday. We are sending that boat out on daily trips, I'm sure it will be a go by the time Tuesday gets here".  OIC.  So, they apparently rely on last minute ticket purchases to fill the boat up enough to make it financially viable to send out on the ocean.  Okay.  I just don't want to drive all the way over there and find out that it's a no-go.  I would then be sent scrambling attempting to find something else, probably meaning having to drive on down to San Diego.

Hey, that was fast! Obama campaign has already released a video condemning Ryan's economics! ROFL!!! Obama has had his chance, all he has shown is that he absolutely LOVES to SPEND taxpayer's money!!!

G'day

Friday, August 10, 2012

I had a -black - woman last night on Facebook insinuating that I am a racist because I don't like Obama and because I am blaming him for the wrecked economy. The posting that I had made stated something to the effect of "On it's present course, America will eventually become a third world nation".

Note that I did not speak of president Obama or any other president for that matter.

I immediately unfriended her.  If people want to debate politics, all well and fine, but to throw the race card into it is a non-starter with me.  I will simply end the conversation, make the assumption that the person cannot engage in an adult conversation without throwing out all the dirt and muck, and that is that.

But, my statement was more about the sad state of America and it's rapid march into declining morals and godlessness. The idea that much of the newest generation is not receiving a good work ethic.  The idea that living off the government is more acceptable than earning a paycheck.  The concept that crosses should be removed off of government property because of "separation of church and state".

Whatever. I found a refrigerator. Looks to be in good shape, cold one side freezing the other with a functioning ice maker : )  Being delivered today.  Actually, while I'm at work.  Mark will be here, though.  He doesn't actually have to do anything, just direct them, it's an actual moving company that the seller has to bring the unit over here.  I'm guessing they won't want to remove the old refrigerator to put the new one in, though.  I would have moved the old one outside yesterday, but I don't have a dolly.  I can borrow one from work.

I am definitely only half awake here.  The alarm clock went off and I was in the middle of a deep, deep sleep.  It really sucks when you are sleeping that well to have to wake up to go to work.  The only good thing I can say is that it's Friday and after today?  9 days off : )  I'm sure they'll fly by but I am going to enjoy every minute of it.

The debate at work, however, continues on with my manager and the main branch warehouse manager arguing over whether a temp driver should be sent to my branch or sent to the main branch.  My manager's argument is that a temp driver does him no good.  He won't know how to pull the product and most of the accounts we service out of our branch they want an experienced person to deal with.  If the temp driver is sent downtown they need only load the truck for him and give him directions on where to go and be put on less "delicate" deliveries.

The Operations manager was CC'ed on all of it and finally intervened, lol.  I do hope they aren't trying to dump guilt on me about taking a vacation, cause' it won't work.  I earned those vacation hours and I am going to use them.  I usually only do a week long vacation once per year.  Before and after that, it's a day or two here and there.  If the company wants to have an operation that only 2 men are running, all well and fine, but it's going to have to figure out how to acceptably deal with these situations as they come up.  I am going to thoroughly enjoy myself on this vacation, even if I am doing absolutely nothing at all, though the fishing trip is a 99% go.

Well whatever.  Time to be off to work.

G'day.

Thursday, August 9, 2012

It's one of those things.  You know you are on the cusp of an extended time off of work, so the week leading up to it - drags on, lol.  2 more days including today of work and it's done.

I'm debating whether to head up to the hill tomorrow or wait until after I get the fishing trip done.  I'm sort of pushing more for the other side of the trip than before.

The issue is the money spent on gasoline to get up there and back and the fact that I am going to be paying for around 850 miles of driving when considering the drive to Ventura and back.

Not to mention I don't really like putting all that mileage on the car, but that was inevitable upon the idea of putting a travel trailer up on the property.

Well, anyway, search for a refrigerator moves on.  I asked one guy whether he could deliver or not - I do that right off the bat along with my offer.  He didn't say, he just said the offer was good enough.  So I asked him again.  No reply.  He then contacted me yesterday and said: "Do you want the refrigerator or not?" I replied to him that he hadn't informed me whether he would/could deliver it or not?

The guy had a temper tantrum.  Informed me that "I ain't selling you nothing".  Declared that he had told me he would deliver it in the very first email and that I am a "Craigslist beginner".  Lol.  I went back to that first email and there was, of course, nothing in it that indicated whether he would deliver it or not, only that he would take my offer.

That's the world of Craigslist.  A LOT of flakey people on there.

I just laughed at the guy, told him his first email said nothing about delivery and that there are 1,000 refrigerators for sale on CL, no big deal to me.  Very odd, though, that a person that is trying to sell something on there would just blow up like that and turn down a cash sale.

I have been burning up out in the heat at work every day this week.  I am REALLY sick of the heat.  It gets so hot that after being out there for a while, your feet start to burn with the amount of heat on the asphalt going up through your boots.  VERY uncomfortable.  By the time work is done, I am out of it.  Yesterday, though, I went to the doc's anyway as I had a physical appointment.  He was going to do an EKG but then found out they had run out of the special paper, lol.  I have to go get some blood taken and he gave me a prescription for some other type of sleep aid.

I haven't tried sleep aids in quite a while, they don't work, at least not on me. This one, he declared, will work.  Okay. I'll try it once.  But not until the work week is over. If it keeps me AWAKE rather than putting me to sleep, I want to be able to not have to get up the next morning and just sleep in after the drug wears off.

Ummm, time to go to work.  At least there is something in there to do today.

Tuesday, August 7, 2012

Work has been really, reaaaaaaallly slooooooow.
Hardly any deliveries and when there are, not taking a lot of time to do because they are small.
This is always a bad sign - not just for our company but for the outlook on the economy cause' when construction starts plummeting, it seems like everything else tanks right along with it.

Regardless, it also makes for a very long day at work when there  is very little to do and all the cleaning projects have been done, leaving nothing but sitting around waiting for something to come up.  We pretty much have the new place dialed in at this point.

There was nothing in the system for today when I left yesterday.

Well whatever.  I have the refrigerator situation to deal with.  But I'm not going to get in a rush about it.  The tenants have their refrigerator and I can live on frozen - the low calorie good kind - dinners until I get the situation resolved.  Meaning getting another refrigerator.  Meaning finding someone that is selling one that is what I am looking for - think big like at least 24 cubic square feet - and can deliver it.

Well, 4 more work days including today til' 9 days off vacation : )

Small group tonight at church.  They have asked me like 5 times now if I will come to this one.  So, gonna go but leave before it's over and told them as such: if it's gonna be a problem for me to get up and leave before it ends, then I won't be coming.  The last request they gave me to come included that they didn't care what time I had to leave and it's no big deal to just get up and go when you need to. Maybe, but when you're the one doing the leaving before a meeting is actually over, it doesn't actually feel like it's not a big deal.

Off to work.

Monday, August 6, 2012

My refrigerator is biting the dust.  The freezer is still freezing but the refrigerator side is starting to get warm.  Gonna lose my food in there.  Not the end of the world, just took all the meat out of there and put it in my up right freezer.  That refrigerator went through that house fire and I was surprised the thing worked after being exposed to that high heat.  I'm guessing the fan quit working.  I'm not sure it's worth fixing.  A fan motor for the thing is probably at least $100.  I good used refrigerator - around $200 if I score, $250 if not.  Oh, you can get them for less, I am talking about something decent that isn't 15 years old that still looks good and you won't have to worry about it for a while.

It is, however, the worst time of the year for something like this to happen.  What it puts in jeopardy is my planned fishing trip next week.  I have the money saved for that trip, I have been saving for it for a while now.  It's also the only money I have available to replace it.  Note that I am not referring to the tenant refrigerator.

I have options.  Not necessarily desirable options, but I can probably get a fridge on payments.  Or take out a small loan to get one.  I have wanted to try and sell the travel trailer, I think it's time to get on that.  Tomorrow - I would do it today but the sun is going down and lighting not good - I will take pics of it - yes I finally found my camera! - and post an ad in Craigslist.  I dunno, though, how long it will take to get a buyer for it.  I'm not going to take less than I paid for it.  Or at least, at first I won't. If it stays on the market too long and no buyers, I will bring the price down.

Umm, but anyway, I don't really want to buy a brand new refrigerator - too expensive.  I have always bought used refrigerators and only once did I get a dud - after about 3 months it died.  Same with washer and dryers.  I just buy them used.

Well, whatever, got some thinking to do.

Sunday, August 5, 2012

I gotta figure something out here.  These "people" living in the shack behind me are spending great quantities of time yelling at their kids.  I am talking 2 and 3 year olds here.
Screaming, yelling, that kind of thing.  It goes on and on and onnnnnnnn...........
I just sent in an internet complaint.  I start with that. Then, when the City of Phoenix's Neighborhood Services department completely ignores my complaint, I can then call Zoning department directly, tell them what's going on and then have them send out their own investigator.
The issue I can get them with is the numerous extension cords that are being used to send power into the structure.
If these people are THAT poor, then they qualify for HUD housing and the City will - or should - direct them  in the appropriate direction to get that kind of assistance.  I am not without compassion, I just am not going to tolerate this kind of nonsense going on 24 hours a day, completely disrupting my right to "peaceable enjoyment of my property".  WHY they are screaming and yelling at little kids that are that young I have no idea...........

I pretty much wrote my heart back to the ex about our son.  A person has to find their own way in and through life.  Parents can be there to support them - your offspring that is - but let the kid make his own decisions and let him reap the results of it - for good or bad.  Not that I wouldn't give some advice if I saw him doing the "jump off the cliff" type of thing where his actions are obviously going to bring him some bad results, but even then, didn't we all have to learn in life from our bad experiences as well as the good ones?

She has not replied to that email.  In her view, I'm guessing, she will be thinking I am opposing her and that I am doing it to spite her.  In reality, I want what is the best for our kid, but I am not going to be around for him forever, meaning he is going off on his own and eventually he probably won't even be in the same country as I am. Sure, we can email back and forth from just about anywhere on earth, but he's GOT to learn to live on his own, by himself.  To coddle him along is doing him a dis-service.

One more week of work and then I get my week off, which actually translates into 9, full, consecutive days of not having to go to work. I really need some serious time off.  I enjoy the day off or two here and there, but a good amount of time away from work is definitely called for.

I mean, sans any circumstances that would prohibit it, we are definitely going on the fishing trip.  The money out of my change bucket was enough to send it over the top.  I was really relying on that being enough to pay for the shortage and it more than surprised me in the amount that was there.  I am going to start all over again with it, this time hoping to cash in around Christmas.

Saturday, August 4, 2012

Uhhhhhh, wow.  Well, I am not really a fan of interjecting my desire for my son's life in what he should do with it. He is a man now, he needs to find his own way.  Parents attempting to guide their children in such thing, I believe, really do them a disservice.  They aren't your 7 year old son or daughter anymore.  If you don't give them the opportunity to find out for themselves - including potential failure and learning from it - I think you are setting the kid up for ultimate fail.

So, the ex writes me a long email about how she feels he should go to a certain ministry to learn about God.  I read the entire email and shook my head.  "She" feels this and "she" feels that about his life.  That's nice, but in a walk with the Lord, each person has to do that for themselves, no-one can walk it for you.  Her intent is to tell him that he should go to Teen Mania - which is a good ministry, I am not saying it isn't but I don't necessarily agree it's the direction the Lord has for him right now - and that's that. "She" prayed about it, therefore it should be.

Yeah, maybe it is, but from my perspective, probably not.  He is going to school.  He is learning Japanese.  He is also doing other courses that he feels he wants to end up doing with his life.  He feels called to Japan.  He is IN school, I mean he went down there and signed up again and it's all paid for.  If you are learning a language, to take a year off and go off to a ministry to do something else is not going to be conducive to you learning that language.  I am guessing a lot of Japanese actually speak English as a second language. English is taught around the world.  But if you are going to minister in the name of the Lord to a foreign land, how much more effective are you that you can speak their language and speak it fluently?

So, I will have a very long conversation with my son when he comes back.  The conversation will not be about whether he should or should not go to Teen Mania, the conversation will be about how to seek the Lord and find his direction for your life.  We have been having several long conversations in recent times - not because I am forcing myself on him - he actually starts these conversations and I throw in my life's experience.  Always easier to learn from someone else's mistakes and observe someone else's successes and perhaps glean something from it.  We spoke at length last night before he headed off to his mother's house and then this morning, off to a week long ministry experience in California, all expenses paid for by the Salvation Army.

We have been having some interesting discussions.  Especially about the Bible and what it has to say.

_________________________________________

So some suggestions were floated around on how to make the view of those people disappear.
One was to get some oleanders and just let them grow big.
No thanks.  It would take too long for them to get that big, number one and number two, I'm not a big fan of those things.

But, it did give me thought that I could just stick 10 foot long 2x4's in the ground and put some sort of material up that would at least temporarily get rid of the view of them - or more to the point - them looking at me.

Or, perhaps, put up large trellises back there and buy a bunch of vines from the nursery and start growing them out of view.  Much cheaper than a block wall and eventually it would definitely remove their ability to see me and my ability to see them - which is the point, I don't WANT to see them and I don't WANT them looking over my fence.  Not only that, but it would look good.  It wouldn't be an eyesore and would actually enhance the aesthetics of my property, not degrade it.

I could also put up an 8 foot chain link fence, cheaper than block and easier to install.  Then, get the vines and start growing them on the fence itself.  I have that already on the east side of the house and it has done the job of almost entire blocking out the view of those people.

Well, whatever the case, I can't do that right now.  Well, I could, skip the fishing trip and use that money on that project instead, but - I am not going to do that. Whatever I end up doing about it, it's going to have to wait.  But the seed has been planted.  It's time to simply remove their ability to be looking into my back yard.  I will be thinking of ways to deal with this situation in the next coming weeks - though the trellis idea really sounds nice, actually.  I think 4x8 trellises are something around $20 to $25 each and I would need probably  8 of them.  I already did this on the back side of my house.  I put in 10 foot 2x4's, cemented them in to the ground and then attached the trellises to the 2x4's.  I think planted some vines - but the vines I bought are REALLY slow growing, I gotta get something else for it.  But it looks good is the point.  They are redwood looking trellises.

Oh, and another thought that crossed my mind is that I could remove the axles off of that 5th wheel trailer and effectively turn it into a permanent structure by putting it on blocks and then dressing the area between the bottom of the trailer and the ground with some skirting.  No longer a travel trailer.  I don't know that I am going to actually do that, but I bet the city couldn't do anything about it if there was another complaint filed by, who else, the idiots behind me.

Whatever.

Well I was just out there, tending to my fish.  The summer monsoon winds are really messing with some of my pond plants : (     They were out there again.  Apparently, they have 2 kids - very young kids at that. Maybe 2 or 3 year olds.  So, a guy, his wife/girlfriend and 2 kids living in a shack that is about 6 feet wide by 8 feet long.  They were making a LOT of noise as well.  I'm going to call the city on Monday - I just plain put it out of my mind yesterday - and get it dealt with on the fact of them running electricity into the shack with an extension cord, a definite no-no by the city's Zoning standards.  If that doesn't work, I can call CPS and have them check the welfare of those kids and I can call the Neighborhood Services division again and see what they can do.

I'm just going to have to build an 8 foot tall fence there, where that shack is behind me and that's the end of that story.   Ummm, so that means gonna have to save up the money for the block.  A regular 6 foot tall fence will not blot out the view of them, not with their property being higher than mine and the fact that they are standing on a deck, which shoots them up another at least 2-1/2 feet.

Interesting. I just found an entire section in the city of Phoenix code of things that do not require a permit.  I noted that a structure that is less than 200 square feet doesn't need a permit, but at the same time, it does not allow for persons to be living inside of it.

Well whatever.  It's Friday and I am just going to go to work, come home and see what happens.  These people should be getting the message that I am not going to just sit back and allow them to mow me over, standing their like a doormat with printing that states: Please Trample Me.  People that start trouble with their neighbors but, somehow, don't quite correlate that that trouble can and probably will come right back at them - are not very intelligent people.

I can only say that it is a good thing, when this kind of situation is going on, that there is someone here 24 hours a day.

Anyway, time to be off to work.

G'day.

Thursday, August 2, 2012

The long and short of it is that I handed him a copy of the insurance card some time ago to put into the glove compartment of the car.  I also warned him a few days ago that that registration is expiring and the car needs to be taken into an emissions testing station before I can re-register it.

This is regarding the old Buick and Caleb driving it after getting back from the summer youth camp.  He was pulled over yesterday by a Mesa police officer - the plates had expired as of, yesterday, lol and apparently the insurance card I had for it was not in the glove compartment.  Well, the cop told Caleb that the car is not insured, this apparently coming from his database on his computer.

Yeah.  The State of Arizona.  They screw all kinds of things up all the time regarding motor vehicles and driver's licenses, it's not surprising to me that they don't have the insurance on file, even though it's been sent to them twice now.  Caleb got off lucky, though, he only got a warning.

Whatever. Caleb called earlier and was waiting in line.  I haven't heard back from him whether it passed emissions or not. It passed with no problem last year after I took it into the shop and had some work done on it, I am really hoping that carries over to today as I really have no spare money to be spending on it.

Well whatever. Paying the mortgage today wasn't so much fun.  Like - ouch.
________________________________________________

Wow!  Double wow!  I walk out of the door on the east side of my house - my little private domain with the ponds and a very nice setup. I'm feeding the fish in one of the ponds when I feel something unnerving.  Eyes. I can ALWAYS feel eyes on me.  I look up and there is this freaky looking dude in the neighbor wars porch - at the shack - standing there, facing me, arms folded.

Nope. I am not putting up with this kind of shit.  WHAT are YOU looking at? "I haven't figured that out yet",  spoken in some sort of strange sounding voice as if he weren't all there and an obvious insult.

Who are you and what are you doing back there?

This is my PARENT'S house and I can do whatever I want!

This guy is in his 30's.  His face looks like the face of a meth user.  He has tattoos going all the way down both arms.  He is wearing a muscle shirt and you can see tattoos all over the exposed parts of his flesh, going up to his neck.  His hair is hanging halfway down his back.

OH, nice, so you are living with your parents, in a shack that is smaller than the size of my bathroom, in your 30's at least and this is your life?  Nice, buddy.  I freely admit I pushed his buttons right back after attempting to press mine.

He got mad, of course, but I wasn't listening to any more of his shit and started piling it on.  He disappeared. 5 minutes later, Sam - the guy that owns the house - came out, looking over the fence.  "Howdy neighbor".  I  wasn't falling for it this time.  I could go into the elongated history of him and his wife making up complete and totally fabricated stories in order to get me into "trouble", but I don't have the time or more importantly, the desire to go into it again on this blog.

I have held back for over 6 years now.  I let it all loose today.  The hoarding.  The cats.  On and on.

Yeah, I got past that conversation quickly and went about my business out there - it's my property, I AM entitled to the peaceful enjoyment of my personal property.  I will not tolerate some freak of nature standing there glaring at me.

Well, I go into my house.  I am in and out a lot.  I come back out maybe 5 minutes later.  I was repairing a blown water line on the drip irrigation system - it's hot out and the rains a few days ago were good for a few days, but there are certain plants that start drooping if they don't get enough water.

Well, this time, that guy is out there, with Sam and a woman and some other dude out there.  This guy starts in on me and goes ballistic. He's yelling, beating his chest like and ape, throwing his fists around and telling me he is going to hurt me and that he shouldn't have "messed with my parents" - on and on.  I seriously though the guy was going to jump the fence and try to assault me!  I did NOT threaten this man, at all.

Well, I just went into the house, got my cellphone, came back outside and called the police.  Gave a full description.  Police came to my house first.  I relayed the entire event and then they went over there. This guy took off his muscle shirt and put on a long sleeve shirt to attempt to hide his tattoos!

Whatever.   These people are not going to intimidate me, they are not going to get away with threatening me and yes, I had my gun in my pocket.  Not that I want to use it or even bring it into view, but with this kind of shit going on, I am going to have it available.

I'm pretty much bound and determined at this point to make this fishing trip happen. Why? Cause' I want to go fishin' on the sea!
Umm, it only made me want to go more after talking with another driver from our company that works for another division today.  We were both at one of our company's plumbing stores  - he works for fire and I work for waterworks.  We run into each other here and there.  We started chatting and I told him about my plans to go seafishing.  He was all bright-eyed after that and declared he had just gone last weekend.

The dude knows a lot more about fishing than I do.  I used to love fishing when I was a kid, but I just haven't done much of it in my adult life.  He figured we should go on an overnight trip.  Great, but the company I found isn't doing overnighters  the week we are going to go.  The day I want to go is a 13 hour trip - the entire week has only 13 hour trips.  I will continue to look for different sportfishing companies, but I am not going to look forever.  An entire day on the ocean will be fun and that's good enough for me.

Anyway, besides suggesting the type of lure I should use - which was good information - he also suggested going to a doctor and getting a patch that you put behind your ear to eliminate any possibility of getting sea-sickness.  You know, I am confident that if I were on boats often enough, it would never happen. But last year, when the boat was anchored in very choppy waters around the Coronado Islands, that boat was getting heaved all over the place and I eventually started to feel it.  I took a dramamine pill, which helped, but  I would rather not have to even think about it.

Oh, and I would think about the company we went with last year, but they raised all of their rates.  The overnight rate went up by $40 per person and I am not interested in paying that much money for an overnight trip.

Nice. I have been dumping change into that big container for months now.  All the time, every day: whatever's in there, dump it in there.  I handed the thing to my son today and asked  him to go and take it to a Coinstar machine and see what happens.  I figured at least $100.  There was $170 in change plus $85 in bills.  I also found the Motel 6 coupon for a free night's stay.  Good til' the 27th of this month.  Yup, we'll be staying on the 13th and the 14th - I am not driving home after a whole day on the ocean, just like last year, I KNOW I won't want to drive home and will be staying in a hotel.

The end.

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

So, upon the advice of a foreman at a construction site, I decided to check out sport fishing going out of Ventura Beach instead of San Diego.  I am not married to the idea of San Diego, the reason I would want to go there is because it is COOOOOOOL there.  Well, according to this dude, it's cool on the ocean off of Ventura Beach, too.

Well, I did call the same company we went on last year - it's not like we were treated badly or something, it was a good trip out onto the ocean and the deck hands were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.  Well, the trip we went on last year is still listed on their site - a 3/4 day trip to some islands - but the Mexican Navy apparently has decided to ban all fishing from that area as of last Saturday.  Yeah, well I'm not too fond of the Mexican Navy stopping fishing boats to check your papers, anyway.  That was a bit unnerving last year to see that - and our boat left out of there about the time they were finishing up with the nearest boat.

We had Mexican fishing licenses, yes, we were legal, but I have had my dealings with the Mexican Army and if it's Navy is the same, no thanks.

So I called a place operating the same kind of thing, only out of Ventura Beach.  I asked if beginners/know nothings were welcomed/okay on their 3/4 day trip to which he instantly replied yes, the boat hands are very knowledgeable and helpful and there is also a little training course they give before the boat heads out. Ohhh?  Hey, that sounds cool! He then extolled the virtues of their full galley that cooks up breakfast, lunch and dinner, serves beer wine and even mixed drinks, on and on.  I asked for a grand total for the tickets, tackle, bait, license and he came up with $100 per person.  The other place as at $135 per person.

I'm reeeeeeally trying to make this work.  Save $70 on the boat, score.  If I can find that coupon, I have a free night's stay at any Motel 6. Yes, I know, probably far beneath most readers, but I don't really care as long as the place isn't noisy all night long and I can sleep.  I don't CARE about hard beds, I prefer hard mattresses and I sleep on one.  That would be one night's worth for free, second night around $70.  $270 so far.  Fuel.  I know, never pay for a vacation on credit cards, but I am not going to worry about racking up some debt on the Chevron card.  I don't use it that much and it would help me make this trip possible.  It's going to be at least $100 worth of fuel after all is said and done.  So, dump the fuel cost on the card, I can pay it off after summer is over and high energy costs are back down again (my electric bill).  So, still at $270 for immediate expenses.  Food.  I got a can full of coins.  I mean, there is at least $100 worth of coins in there.  I have been throwing coins in there specifically for the purpose of using it on this trip.  There's some green in there, too.

Yup, just dump some green  in there here and there but dump ALL coins in there on a daily basis. That can is heavy.

It's a short vacation on the cheap doing something I want to do.  They have a daily tally of how many and what kind of fish are being caught on any given trip, the boat I would be going on had a total of 38 anglers yesterday who caught over 500 fish!  That's what I wanted to see, that we aren't just going on a sight-seeing tour of the ocean, but that there are actually some amount of fish being caught.

Well, anyway.  Get down off of that high.  I have just as much a good time attempting to figure out how to make a vacation work financially and seeking out whatever deals I can as I do actually going on the vacation.  Sounds weird, but it's a challenge and if I am faced with a challenge that I know I have at least a reasonable change of conquering, I am all over it.

Just got home from church - like it's my bedtime now so just a short update.  Well, church was a men's meeting and the pastor was sharing his vision of things he would like to see come to pass in the church.

Got home and found George gone - tenant - and informed he had cut his finger and it would not stop bleeding, so he went to the hospital.

Wind storm tore down a large branch off of one of the Sissoo's, and now it appear I will have to cut the other large branch off of it because the one that tore off took a big chunk out of the other branch that was also coming out of it.  I dunno the future of that tree at this point.

Vacation week has been approved, week of the 13th - 17th.  Whether we go on a fishing trip is still up in the air.  Dunno but not stressing over it.

It's been raining here - like real rain, the likes I haven't seen in quite a long while.

Got a raise.  2%.  I know, doesn't sound like much but that was pretty much across the board for everyone at my company and - in this economy - any kind of raise is a welcome sight, definitely not complaining.

That's it.  No time for more, I gotta get to bed!

I am still up in the mountains.  The sun has all but gone, just a faint light left.  It started pouring rain 6 hours ago, continued raining heavily for about an hour, lightened up a bit for another half hour but it's still, after 6 hours, raining outside.  The  ground was saturated to the point of water running down the hill.  A good thing for the forest in these parts, it's been so dry that people have refrained from coming up here for fear of forest fires.

I am laying in bed - a very comfortable, queen-sized bed - listening to the pitter-patter of rain drops hitting the RV roof.  I turned off the fan so I could listen to it - but that isn't going to last too long, it starts to get stuffy and I can't handle not having air moving around a bit.

I fixed - a temporary job since I didn't have some materials that I didn't know I would need to repair it - the roof today. Early this morning, actually. I put Henry's metal roof goop on there and actually hoped it wouldn't rain.   It didn't start raining for about 5 hours after I put that stuff on there, but I went up on the roof just before the rain started falling and it was still soft.  Nothing I could do, I knew there was the possibility of rain and I would either fix the thing or not.

But, even after the heavy downpour, not a drop of rain has come out of where the leak was.  Note that I went to the trouble of removing layers of white elasomeric roof coating that must have been applied over time.  I have found that covering over an old coating of the stuff  does much of nothing.  You have to go to the trouble of removing the old coating, getting it down to the metal and then starting over.

I made my mom a nice pork chop dinner. She was out of food anyway. Like, time to eat noodles type of dinner.  She had forgotten to bring up several pounds of frozen chicken that she was going to use.   So, a dinner of salad and pork chops and mashed potatoes and corn was a very welcome meal, apparently.

Well that's it.  I'm off to early bed.  Getting up early to leave for town so I can go to church in the morning, which doesn't start until 10:00 am.

Up in the mountains.  I almost bowed out of it today as well, I was pretty tired but I forced myself to get everything together, get the dogs in the car and get rolling.  Amazing amount of traffic coming up to these parts on the highway.  Extremely inconsiderate drivers as well.  It is amazing how many drivers will block the passing lane for miles and miles and miles, blocking up traffic 20 cars worth behind them.

Then there was the couple in the BMW.  I am going the pace the car can go.  My car is loaded with 350 pounds of dogs, 200 pounds of human and at least 150 pounds of stuff in the trunk. It's got a bit of work to do to keep up the speed I want it to. It also heats up a bit while climbing the hills.  Meaning?  Speed is going up and down, not because I want to do that, but because that's just the way it is. Unlike many motorists in this day and age, however, I will move out of the way of whoever wants to get by me.  We went back and forth passing each other until the dude driving that vehicle decided to gun it and take off.

Which bothered me not, whatever.  I just want to get here as fast as I can.  However, after 30 plus years of coming up to this area and 15 years of sporadically coming up to this property, I have learned the places were Highway Patrol like to hang out.  There are hot spots, what I call them, where you can figure they might be and you make sure you aren't pushing the speed limit there.  Yup, I saw the lights flashing and then, coming upon it, the car pulled over.

Well, I put in for a week's worth of vacation.  August 13th through 17th.  I don't know if I am going deep sea fishing again, but that is the only time I can do it with my son.  I wanted to take a week off this summer, that's it.  Actually, I put it in today and it has already been granted.  So, even if I can't do San Diego, I can definitely come up here.

Yeah, I know, that week isn't that far off from now.  A bit over 2 weeks.  Lol.

Well, I didn't leave until almost 5:00 pm to get up here and then when I got here, spent at least an hour talking with mom - very tired, it's an hour past my bedtime.

G'nite.

Globe, Arizona.
Old mining town, active copper mines all around.
Go up there occasionally with deliveries.
Well, I was to deliver to the city, which I had never done before.
I have delivered to a store; several of the mines and several street projects
going through there and surround towns.
Went to the office. It became immediately obvious that the address on my delivery ticket?
Was definitely NOT the place this material was going to be going to.
No yard there at all, just a building and surround by grass, a park and a kid's playground.

I ask a lady inside where I should take this material, noting to her the name of the person that ordered it.
Oh yes, she replies, you have to take it to such and such a place.
K, how do I get there?

This lady starts going into a litany of different streets that I would have to turn on, making all kinds of turns.  I was writing the information down as she was giving it to me, and asking her to say the names of the streets twice - I always do that to make sure I have the right name.

So, I find the first street she was referring to and take the right turn she instructed.  Old town, spaghetti style streets - just sort of thrown out there like if you flinging spaghetti and that's how the streets end up.  I went down this street looking for the next street to turn on.

I never found it.  I'm in the semi - pulling a 48 foot flatbed trailer?  Yes.  The big truck.  As I progress down this road, it comes to a fork.  To the left the street narrows considerably and is very steep - 15% grade.  To the right, the road also narrows, goes on for about half a mile before it turns out of site.

I had a bad feeling about both of those streets.  I've learned to come to trust those instincts, so instead of going either direction, I put the truck in reverse and started backing up.  Not that there was any place to turn around within a thousand feet at best..........

Well, I have to stop.  A Jeep is coming up behind me, I have my flashers going and my brakes/lights are on.  I just waited and then saw that they pulled into the drive of the house I had stopped in front of.  Good, directions, please.

I turn the truck off and get the attention of one of the ladies that gets out of the vehicle. Why hello there, how are you today?  She is ready to get into whatever kind of conversation it was to be, so I informed her that I had been victimized by bad directions and could she tell me how to get to such and such a place?

Ohhhh, yes, well it's on the other side of .......... that..........point to a deep chasm on the right of me where the road literally drops off and goes well down - at least 30 feet and also some railroad tracks down there. Ummm, okay.  She gives me detailed instructions, I thank her and begin my backing procedure.

I did eventually find a dirt driveway into whoever's property that was large enough - barely - to accomodate a truck to back into and then pull out.  Should have I asked for permission?  Well I didn't, I executed a flawless backing/turning procedure that had me running into nothing back there and had to do no pull-ups  and left.  Well, if I can't do anything else, at least I can drive a truck!  That's all I'm saying.

Now, I get down to the stop sign she told me to go to, turn left and find a bridge that says weight limit 20 tons.  My truck, empty is 26,600 pounds and the load on it was about 3,000 pounds, so I was safe there.
But I did learn why I had missed the turn.  The actual name of the street was nothing like what this lady had told me it was.  I repeated that street back to her twice and she nodded her head in agreement that that was the street name that she had stated.

Well it wasn't even close.  Same first letter after that nothing was the same.  My gosh.  I've had farmers give me better directions by watching for this colored silo and that colored barn to make turns at. I end up at the top of the hill and yes, there is the yard I am looking for.

Just my little Globe trip today.  I was really sweating it because I was driving through residential neighborhoods on narrow streets and wondering if I was going to run into a sign with a picture of a truck, a red circle around it and a line through the truck - no trucks.  I see those signs all over the place in the valley.  I was ON one the other day.  The dummies that put up the sign had it 50 feet down from the entrance to the road.  What was I supposed to do, put the truck in reverse and back out into heavy traffic on a major surface street?  They usually put them right there at the entrance, once you've made the turn it's too freaking late!

Went and got the car's oil changed - 1,000 miles past due unfortunately. If I'm making a trip up North tomorrow, I didn't want to do it with old oil in it.  Got a free wash out of it, too.  Plus, this is one of the few places left that has a rain guarantee: if it rains within 48 hours of getting it washed, they will re-wash it again for free.  I had the owner of a car wash place tell me that NO-ONE in the Phoenix area gives that kind of guarantee.  Bunk, I replied, I named off 2 places and now I know a third.

Went to the food store today instead of waiting until tomorrow and having to waste even that much more time in trying to get everything ready, doing laundry right now and so, the only thing to do tomorrow is come home, load the car and dogs up and go.  That includes having to get out the tools and materials to fix the leaky roof.

But I'm running out of steam.  Have been cranking away since 6:00 am.  Pretty much sat down here and the wind let out of my sails.  Which is okay, just a few more things that I have to get done today, if not, just add a bit of extra time tomorrow.

I'm straining to figure out how to go to San Diego, get on a boat and spend a day at sea fishing.  It may simply not happen this year, or, perhaps later on in the year.  I don't know.  I like to get out of town and do something different once in a while. Going up to the mountains is awesome, yes and it is definitely something I want to continue to do, but a trip over to California would be nice, too.

Well, another entry getting long.

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Okay. Well, if we want to go Sport fishing this year, apparently the tab is on me.  College is apparently going to consume the money that my son earned up at the youth camp.
$190 for 2 to get on the boat plus $21.95 per person to rent the tackle/rods.
2 night's hotel stay.
Food/drink.
Gas.
So I dunno yet.
Vacations aren't cheap, end of that story.
They found his body decomposing in the desert.  That was the news I heard in my kitchen from oe of my tenants yesterday when that particular tenant came home.  It was his brother-in-law - who apparently had some mental issues after coming back from one of the wars, which one I don't remember.  What can you say to a person going through something like that?

Cars.  Next door neighbor has I think 8 of them.  He only drives 2 of them, the rest of them sit there and do nothing.  Complete and total eyesore, the newest vehicle in his junk collection isn't even in the 2000 model year range.  They are all old junk.  Well, I was informed yesterday by a tenant that he had been "told" by the next-door-neighbor's son that he was parking "in front of their house" and needed to move his car.

I thought we had gotten past this issue with these stupid people.  First off, there is no law saying I can't park in front of their house - though I certainly have no desire to do so and second, if they're going to start that s*** up again, well.  I got into my old blue Buick, pulled it out onto the street and parked it -  yup - all the way up at the edge of my property and partially in front of theirs.  They had their station parked there but they got in and took off with the thing  These people should know by now that starting a war with me isn't going to go well for them.  I will hold nothing back, including complaining about their entire property, which is filled with nothing but junk and trash.

There's not a damn thing they can do about me parking my car where I parked it, either.  They can call the police if they like, but the police are only going to tell them the same thing they told them the last time we went through this: there is nothing illegal about the way the car is parked.

I am going to start reviewing housing codes and other city codes to find out what gems I might be able to find.

Pretty sure I am going to the property this weekend.  I just need to gather some things together to be able to get up on the roof of the trailer and do the work it needs to fix it.

I have to say this news story tickled my funny bone: a man asked to leave Disney World because he resembles Santa Klause too much!  They have a pic of him, and yes, he certainly does!  But he didn't have a costume on, just his white hair and beard and mustache. Lol.  Too much.  The guy was there on vacation with his family.  I guess it might not be too funny to him, but I just can't believe Disney World would actually ask a person to leave because their striking resemblance of a fictional character.

Well that's enough for now.  I am sitting at a job site, waiting to get unloaded.

I don't own one and I probably never will, but the logic escapes me as to how, exactly, a ban on certain types of weapons would have stopped the incident at the movie theater from occurring?  He would have found some other way to execute his plan - but regardless of whether they are legal or illegal, you can get any kind of gun you want on the black market.  Would it have made any difference, whatsoever, if he had obtained the weapons legally or illegally?  The ending would have been the same: a lot of people dead and wounded.

Well, Monday's here and I am definitely not feeling like doing much of anything.  Crank myself into gear in a few minutes, get in the car and drive to work.  Weekends never last long enough.  But, my manager is coming back from almost 2 weeks off, that's always a wonderful thing to have to face, lol.

Conversation with my mother about Sheriff Joe Arpaio yesterday?  She apparently is a big fan and couldn't understand why I won't be voting for him.  I gave her my explanation which apparently didn't work with her. Which is okay, I don't need my mother's approval to vote for someone else.  I then brought up the fact that the man is in his 80's and isn't going to be around forever, anyway.  That also didn't work with her so, oh well, throw my hands up in the air and - still not vote for him.  Don't know yet who I will vote for, but apparently Sheriff Joe has a huge amount of money already in the bank for his re-election bid.

As with Obama, the Sheriff of Maricopa County can spend as much money as he likes on his campaign and it won't change my mind one iota.  I guess all the money spent must be for those that haven't made up their minds.  So, with Obama/Romney, what percentage of people, I wonder, have not decided?  That's really the only people all that money being spent is directed to.

Well whatever, time to depart hence for thither yonder lands.

G'day.

Sunday, July 22, 2012

Okay, I have a person that owns a large pond coming after some of the Taro.  The wind really sent the whole collection into complete disarray, it looks terrible now and there is no way of getting it back to the way it was before that happened yesterday.  Which sucks.  But oh well.  I will get rid of about half of it, then replant - again - the rest of it and try to get it into some semblance of organization and than after that time will fix it.  A lot of time, but time never-the-less.  BUT, I will be planting the smaller Taro away from the larger ones and that will give a chance for a double plantation, so-to-speak.

As for my trip to San Diego next month, totally changing the subject - well the prospects aren't looking very good.  Well, yes, I could do what we did last year and I wouldn't mind that, actually, anything for a change of view and something different.  It was a low budget trip last year and this year it would have to be the same unless I could sell that trailer.  I have not been able to find my camera - I don't know what I did with the thing - to be able to post an ad on Craigslist.

I think I will post an ad without pics and see what, if anything, might become of it.  It would pull me out of the hole.  I need a cash infusion, I usually get one in summertime every year, that hasn't happened this year and it's starting to really affect my finances.  If things do not get better, I will have to take the money saved for the trip and put it into my regular checking account and if that isn't enough, then I will have to revert to whatever to pull me through.

I always have an "answer" to financial problems - well usually anyway - but selling the trailer or at least trying to is the obvious first decision in this case.  I have no "attachments" to it and getting rid of it would - open up my side yard, really, lol.

Eddie - the kid along with his younger siblings came over here and ripped the doorbell button off the front of my house as some kind of joke - showed up again a little while ago.  He started blaming his younger brother for the offense, which is when I shut him off.  PLEASE don't start that shit with me.  You were LAUGHING at the time and thought it was a complete joke to destroy my property, you can either shut up or just leave and get out of here.  He then apologized.  He is a product of his upbringing, yes, but that doesn't fly over here. I am setting boundaries now that that has happened and I will not tolerate any more of it.

Saturday - late afternoon I did not get up early since I had second load and was really deep in sleep again.  Like, this all seems to have ...
