Friday - evening
James is going to start helping out at the park. His normal side gig is done for now and I could definitely use some extra hands over there, a person that I can trust and will actually do what they say they will do and not lie about it or try to steal from me, or whatever.
I've been getting back late every day from trucking so I haven't really gotten much done.
However.
I was up at the plant ready to deliver, had to go find a supervisor. Took quite a while, it's a large plant and there are a lot of moving parts all over the place and foremost: it's extremely noisy in there. The sound of hydraulic presses, conveyor belts and all kinds of devices constantly moving, you have to wear ear plugs. I found him way in the back, I had never even been back that far before. He signed off and I was good to go.
I'm outside doing my thing about 15 minutes later and here comes the plant manager - not the dude that signed off. He's looking at me making motions about how full the tanks are and asks if the supervisor checked the tanks? No, but I did, there is just enough room for another truckload in there. He's going to go look for himself, of course, I don't work there and I don't pay the price for any consequences if I'm wrong, but he trusts my word anyway. We both went in and looked.
It's because the first driver was just finishing up when I got there, this manager had looked when he was unloading and didn't know if there was still enough room in there. Thankfully, there was. So, this glue is flying out of that tanker. It's 70 degrees inside of the thing and when the product gets that warm, it flows nicely. I get a text message from the dispatcher: Your load for this weekend just cancelled.
I was ecstatic. I didn't want to work this weekend but I didn't say that to them at all. I just accepted the work and resolved myself to working both Saturday and Sunday. The reason I really wanted to get this weekend off is that the kids are leaving for grandma's for 2 weeks and then they're coming back, but leaving within hours of returning with the folks to Colorado. I basically won't see them for a month and a half so I wanted to spend some time with them.
At the end of the delivery, I went to find the plant manager - another trek through the place searching for him. I found him in the break room, I said I'm done, there's about a foot left in that tank, we're all good. He said great and that he had just cancelled a load, too much product. I said yes, that was my load and you just gave me the weekend off! Thank you! He smiled real big, he's a really nice guy and humble.
